The campaign just needs a good slogan. How about "Inflexible as a Stone Tablet"?

Timothy Noah of Slate reports on the movement to draft Roy Moore, the judge of Ten Commandments fame, as a right-wing candidate for president. He has provided a link to the Draft Moore website petition. As of Noah's writing, only 27 signatures were on the petition; by now it's up to 352, and some extraordinary people appear to be in favor of a Moore candidacy. One listing for Jesus Christ and two for Jesus H. Christ appear among the most recent signatures. Signature #351 belongs to Lyra Belacqua, who is best known as the heroine of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials; without giving away too much of the plot for people who haven't *coughIRIScough* read it yet, it is safe to say that Lyra is not exactly the poster child for the Christian right. Unless, of course, the poster should happen to be captioned "Wanted by the Consistorial Court for Darkest Heresy." In any case, one feels moderately sure that not everyone on this list is signing the petition because he or she feels that Roy Moore would make an excellent president.

Signature #352 belongs to one Sister Andrea St. Olga, and I must say Sister Andrea thinks it's fascinating that when filling out the data following the petition, she had the option to request emails from the following organizations: NARAL Choice Action Network (a pro-choice group), Care2 Action Alerts (an environmentalist group), Action Alerts (another one), and the Democratic Party! I think the point here is pretty clear. Moore is valuable to the left - as a bulwark against Bush. Getting anyone but Bush into power is a good idea as far as I'm concerned, so let me raise the rallying cry: Roy Moore for President!
